Discussion on the work of the artist Erika Vogt, with Elsa Vettier, art historian and critic

In the context of the 6th edition of Les Ateliers de Rennes, À Cris Ouverts, Erika Vogt presents a new production entitled Rattlers, with the support of the Embassy of the United States of America. The artist’s presence in Rennes is the occasion to look back at her artistic practice and how it has evolved since 2004, date at which the Frac Bretagne acquired three of her works. Erika Vogt (b. ) is a sculptor who lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. She received herMFA from California Institute of the Arts and her BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in New York City.  Vogt’s sculptures have taken the form of large-scale installations and collaborative theatrical projects.   She works materially across mediums and shifts back and forth from an emphasis on form to surface. Objects act as a catalyst formovement of the human figure.  Her most recent work draws on ancient art history. Past institutional solo exhibitions have included the New Museum in New York, theHepworth Wakefield in West Yorkshire, and Triangle France in Marseille.  Her work hasbeen exhibited and screened at institutions including MIT’s List Visual Arts Center, theMetropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Whitney Museumof American Art, the Hammer Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the CentrePompidou, Anthology Film Archives, and REDCAT.   Theatrical commissions of the ArtistTheater Program include The Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC)at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2014 and Performa in New York City in 2015. Avec le soutien de l’ambassade des États-Unis d'AmériqueWith the support of the Embassy of the United States of America
